JD acting weird, help needed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If they are twitching... they are aggravated/uncomfortable...

If they are rubbing against the ground or objects... they are scratching an ich...

Ick is an itchy parasite... but there are a lot of others too. Most people inaccurately refer to most parasites as "ick". Although it's inaccurate, it isn't critical as (to my knowledge) any cure for ick will address other parasites as well.

I would seek out advice on how to address a parasite infection. I personally prevent parasitic issues using UV lights, but you need a cure not prevention. Others could probably advise you better on this detail than I could.

Exactly why I don't do live plants anymore. Probably the culprit.

Heat and salt are a cheap killer if ich. Not sure how effective it would be on other parasites.

Yep, that'd be my guess. You can't automatically assume it's ich though, there's more than a few parasites with the same symptoms and the treatments are different. Heat & salt's not going to hurt a bit in case it's ich and you could dose with General Cure in case it's gill flukes or something along those lines. It's the ich meds that I'd consider more problematic.

I dont think they have ich, he would see atleast a few spots on them. Im thinking they have some other type of parasite. Its hard to say what because you have to pay attention to all the symptoms. I would suggest raising the temp a little meanwhile, maybe adding a little salt. Are you familiar with this treatment? Are the fish gasping for air at the surface or breathing harder than usual?

But you said the eating habits arent as usual, which makes me think it might be an internal parasite. I dont know, its hard to say.

well, i got this medication idk if it will work but ill try its by mardel and its call maracyn plus have any of you used this product before and the fish are breathing fine they are just jumpy, sometimes the will act normal then they will flip out and do you think i sound use a seperate tank for treatment i mean i think all thefish have it now some worse than others but the worst one but still has not spots is the small JD i will move himinto a small 10 gallon treat him and see how he acts for the next few days to see if hes doin any better, does this sound like a good idea, thx

Marycin is good stuff. If other fish are showing the same symptoms I'd use it in the main tank in conjunction with raising the temp slowly to 88 f. Be sure to remove any carbon from your filter media (if you use carbon) and follow instructions on bottle. When the treatments are done and your fish are feeling all groovy put carbon back in your filters for a day or 2 to get rid of the leftover meds.

Good luck.
