So, I've had this male JD for a few months. I picked up a female an inch larger than him, who in the end had to be returned as she was getting progressively more aggressive with him.

When I returned her, I picked up her largest female offspring she had on site who is approx. 9 months old now. I picked her up at approx. 7 months, grew her out for about 6 more weeks, then when she was getting aggressive with the Africans, I put her in with Jack. They got along amazing which as I've mentioned on this site was bazaar has he gets along with NOTHING I give him.

About a week ago, she laid a nice batch of eggs - only about 4 white ones. She was doing her duty fanning them, but the male was so lifeless he almost seemed depressed. After about 40 hours, she ate them all. What gives?

And at 9 months, is she even old enough to produce viable young should he happen to fertilize? I couldn't be sure if he had.

The first time they breed it usually doesn't work out for one reason or another...... LOL.
If they get along OK together, they will probably breed again in about 2-3 weeks.
Feed them some brine shrimp.....
