Here's my 8.5" JD (TL) and the Goldfish he lives with. He thinks he's a Goldfish :screwy: .

those look more like koi....and that cant be good for you jd. gold fish/koi are so dirty and the ammonia levels spike all the time. goldfish/koi can handle a little bit higher ammonia.

they look like goldfish to me, but i agree with the previous post. plus goldfish tend to do better in lower temps, where the jd should be in warmer.......

I disagree.

First of all, those are clearly.... goldfish.

Not koi.

Second, goldfish aren't all that dirty, as most preceive them to be.

Goldfish grazes constantly, therefore, eating up all leftover food or whatever's edible in the tank.

Infact, I keep goldfish in my tank to keep my gravel/sand bed clean.

I once had problems with worm over growth (those tiny little white worms), and my goldfishes did a great job exterminating them.

yeah, those are definitely goldfish, i used to be a big koi fan, the JD has been with goldfish for over a year since he was about 5" or so, he became very tame after the female JD died so he was lonely and i decided to put him with some goldfish to see if it would work and it does very well, ammonia has never been a problem, he is actually much happier with goldfish than with other cichlids, the 5 large goldfish were already medium - large when i got them, only one of the goldfish in there has been partially raised with the JD

Weird... A vegetarian JD, maybe? :D

Best regards.

Daniel.

kind of, when i kept him with my oscar and carpintis, i fed them shrimp and fish pieces and whenever the JD touched a piece he would swim quickly across the tank while the other fish gobbled it up

his favorite food is tubifex worm cubes, so he's not a vegetarian, just doesn't like fleshy foods i guess
