not necessarily, but it invalidated my argument :D

When my fish pick on others they usually have specific targets...not just all other fish and it has very little to do with size. It's a strange thing....

Do you think seperating the two for a week or two would do any good?

Only if you put them both into different tanks. Then you have to worry about keeping the original tank cycled while its inhabitants are missing. (edit: noticed you do have other fish in there) There are other tricks, too. You can drop the temps just a little to reduce aggression. You can also add calming agents to the water, but you'd have to find out what is safe.

Best answer: Rearrange the tank a few times. If it doesn't work, you might have to separate them. :(

From my experiences with Oscars, The Oscar is the problem, As usual Oscars are the cowards of the cichlid world, It won't stand for himself so it is the easiest target for the JD :grinno:

The idea is to let the less dominant O claim some territory, so when the more aggressive JD is put back in the O might be able to hold some ground with out being pushed into the corner. I can't tell you for sure this will happen the JD may be so dominant it takes the whole tank back but I doubt the O will turn the tables compleatly at this point. I have done this in the pass with success, but again the age old disclaimer all fish are different.

Its possible that if you give the oscar a few weeks to get established he wont get bullied as much.
The oscar is going to grow alot faster than the jd so giving them some time will also give him the advantage of being larger.

Separate them for a month or two. Your O will put on 2-3 more inches, reintroduce JD and then see who's boss. I'll bet you'll report the problem still exists but just reversed itself. My O is the undisputed king of his tank with a JD and big male Con.

You just want to make sure that the O gets to eat during his fast growth stage or he might end up small and unhealthy.

I have put the JD on his own in a 30 gal, and the O is with the other guts in the 112 gal
I will wait until the O grows a little and then reintruduce them

Well I had them seperated for a month, and now they are back together. The JD still tries to bully the O, but now the O stands up to him and does not back down, he is also twice the size of the JD. I think they are going to be alright together its been 2 weeks since I put them back together, they do face off every now and then but its not always the O who backs off the JD now does to. But I noticed when it comes to food no one is going to stop the O from eating I think he gets all the food before the JD even realizes whats happening, thats a complete change from a month or 2 before.
