I plan to get a Jack Dempsey that is 7 inches. I want to put him in with my 10 inch 4 lined pim. I also have a red tinfoil barb and a bala shark. It is a 55 gallon. Can I put him in that tank? My guess is no.

There is a possibility that the JD would be fine with the four line pim. I used to keep a 7" pim with a large Red Devil pair without incedent. Though there is that chance things could go bad, you would have to try out to see. Both the bala shark and tin foil are schooling fish. Both get rather large a group of either one would be way to big for a 55g tank. I would suggest rehoming the two and get a group of giant danios as target/dither fish to go along with the JD and pim. Again this would have to be a test, the danios could just end up as lunch.

I only have 1 Bala and 1 Red tinfoil and they school together. There is no way I'm buying another red tinfoil barb. Those things are so greedy!

Get rid of the barb and shark and he be fine in the 55 gallon.. both the red tinfoil barb and the bala shark get to big for a 55 gallon..

That is why I suggested rehoming both fish. You 55g is too small to properly house either fish.
