Are Convicts and Firemouths similar? No. Are Texas and Convicts similar? No. But they have been crossed. Just because it isn't often that a JD crosses with another fish doesn't mean it cannot be done. Especially with a Green Terror.

Its not to do with being similar its to do with how close genetically they are and JD's and GT's are very far apart, GT's are SA cichlids and JD's are CA cichlids :screwy:

i am pretty sure JD's are found in SA too. Most fish can be widely distriputated!

but JD males arent very aggresive breeders so to breed a con and a jack it would be more likely with a female JD and a male Con

Have a look at this site.Scroll down the page to see a JD x GT(Acara)
I put my money on GT.http://www.cichlidmadness.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11212

That site doesnt even say its a GT cros JD it just says its a GT hybrid.
And i say you lose your money because its just a straight JD. The only thing GT about it is the first picture which he randomly stuck in there which was a GT.

I wasn,t saying the fish in this thread was a hybrid of GT-JD.I was simply showing that it has occured before as others said it could not happen.\When I said I put my money on GT, I was refering to the fish in the thread(link)I posted and not the fish in this thread.Communication error on my behalf.I should have been clearer.

you have a jack x con.plus what a great looking fish
