Looks much better with the pothos, you wouldn't even know it's a functional sump! Affect on nitrates is going to be pretty minimal especially if yours were already low, but they do absorb some. Do you know how your going to suspend the light? I would caution that if you have the light above the planter the tank will probably get much less light. Not sure if you mind a darker tank.

yeah i gotcha. i was hoping i could cut nitrates down to the 0-10 ppm range constantly but im still getting 20-40 three days after water change. just trying to eliminate that second water change every week.

i have a second led that will mount on the tank somewhere. but this whole thing is really just a testbed for when i get my new tank for this space. hopefully a tall starfire or acrylic tank.
