I bought my JD almost a year ago he was maybe 2-3 months old about 1 and half inch big. now almost a year later the fish is about 4 to 4.5 inches is this a normal growth rate for Jack Dempsey?

I was not aware that Dempseys had such a slow rate of growth.I would think it should be nearly a foot long by now.

I heard that after 2 years a male JD should be a foot long. thought it would ne at least half a foot by now. well he seems happy that's all that matters ).

yup they not real fast growers, males little faster and get bigger. will take awhile to get 12" male. 2 years sounds about right for that.
