Alright, this is a weird one.

We used to have a huge pacu and he loved to eat almonds. Our JD would usually steal an almond from him when he wasn't looking.

The pacu has been gone for months.

The JD has not eaten in weeks, and has a weird bump on his left side (i made another thread about it).

Well i've offered him flakes and cichlid pellets, and he isn't even interested, but everyone else in the tank loves them.

I just dropped an almond in the tank just out of curiosity, and he gobbled it up like he hasn't eaten in weeks, because he hasn't.

What gives?

The fish has gone for weeks without a bite, and refuses all food. The almond he gobbles up.

Does he have a deficiency or something?

He knows what he likes and is stubborn.

Lots of fish will do this. He is just waiting for you to give him the almond.

They wont starve themselves. Fish like JD's can go much longer than 2 weeks without food.

Almonds dont have all the nutrients he needs. I suggest not ever offering almonds again and eventually he will have no choice but to eat what he is offered.

what a sneaky little bastard.

He is 8" and 4-5 years old, so he's definitely full grown.

I haven't seen him eat in at least 3 weeks. I'm suprised he has that sort of will power.

I make my own fish food to keep a lot of variety, and also feed flakes and cichlid sticks.

Maybe i should make an almond heavy fish mix and see if he likes that.

Thanks!

maybe the lump comes from the almonds;)

i was gonna say, sneek a few chunks in there.

worms sound like a good idea.

The thing is there hasn't been a single almond in the tank in at least a month. So the lump can't be from that.

He does have a slight deformation though, his head is slightly cocked off to the side where the lump is. But he's had that since he was just a lil pup.

pics?
i'd like to see this.
