JD Pair

Here are the proud soon to be parents. They didn't let the pleco anywhere near the rock last night, one more night to go, and they should be hatching around 4am tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Well, as of this morning, nothing has hatched. The eggs were deposited Sunday night around 4pm. When should I expect to see wigglers? 99% of the eggs are a greyish brown color now with the exception of a few that are shiny and off white. I'm assuming those few are the ones that were not fertilized.

Keep watching, they should be hatching soon it sounds like. I've noticed there is no real set time frame IME. I'm hoping my EBJD and his mate spawn when I get em in their new tank. That's pretty sweet that they did that, that fast. Within a few days of adding my EBJD to my group of females he paired off with one of them and spawned. But she ate the eggs shortly after, she's weird.

Yeh, I was surprised it happened so fast as well. They have been very attentive to the eggs, and to my knowledge none have been eaten, so we'll see what happens. I'll enjoy them for a little while, and then it's off to the pet store with them.

Congrats! Look like you will get some fry out of them. They are beautiful.

It's pretty common for the female to either eat the eggs or the fry on her first spawn. With each spawn she will become a better parent.

Oh I know it is, it was just weird that it was within a few hours of laying the eggs that she did. Heck, they weren't even in a spot of danger. The pleco wouldn't have been able to get at them nor would the lone bala shark at the time. Like I said, I'm hoping it happens when I get em in the new tank.
