double post...sorry. Even at a small size you can pick a female. This is a pick of Jackie when she was 2.5", and she was already screaming that she was a female (green spangles jaw and under mouth). So if you get a small female, at least grow her until she's not bite sized.

also maybe include a hiding spot ..for the female just incase he beats her up our do a divider and get her use to him... but I agree take him out and let her get settled.

My suggestion would be to remove Male.

Rearrange the tank. Making areas the smaller female can access but not the Male.

putting the female in first. Then after a few hours adding the male.

still a little risky

You could always buy a divider for the tank. Female on one side, male on the other... until the female was large enough to defend herself, that would take time. Maybe feed the male every other day and the female once a day...im not sure how u would like to do it

Divide the tank, place male in a small space.

Rearrange the tank maybe add a con pair. If he wants to fight it out with them he can. Add a decent sized female. If hes not ferocious through the divider remove it see what happens.

Update: Went into petsmart bought a 2" female. I introduced her into the tank without moving my male. I changed up decor only. Well the female went right to him and sit by him, he didn't care. Right now they are sitting together near a pot..he chases her some, but she always comes back. Am I lucky so far?
