I just received two bgjd from a fellow mfker and I gotta say that they're both beautiful. After acclimating and introducing them with my ebjd in a 40Long, they settled in. My dominant male ebjd started flapping his tail against them and flaring his gills. He lip-locked with both and is now chasing them around when they get too close. I put in two clay pots and moved the decor around to provide more cover if they need. I don't expect a pairing right away, but is the male chasing the females around normal behavior? The second male ignores the females and is now being pushed around by the dominant male. This has never happened before.

As you probably know, I recently attempted to pair my female dempsey to a male with success, maybe the beginner's luck. In my case, the female was the one chasing the male. I'm not sure that the chasing pattern is linked with the fish gender. I would rather think that it can be explained by territorial instinct; the new Dempseys were added to your established male dempsey tank.

My male is 4 1/2 inches. One female is 4 inches and the other close to 5? One of the females is definitely bigger than him, but he chases her regardless.
To limit the chasing, you can turn off the lights for a couple of days until the females get used to their new environment. Fish feel the distress and take advantage of it.
