for the past 2 weeks or so my jack dempsey has been staying around the top of the tank near the heater but the water is plenty warm at 82°F. I'm not worried about him because he eats well and swims around but sometimes for hours he'll just sit up there. Theres also no aggression problems in the tank either so thats not the problem. any ideas why he's up there?

Maybe he has claimed the heater as his? 82 is definitely pretty warm for a JD... u have any airstones or anything? How big is the tank/what else is in it?
