JD question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ime, just cause your jack can't physically eat it's tank mates, that doesn't mean you won't wake up one morning with 10+ dead tetras. Well fed or not. My jack would not tolerate tank mates that couldn't defend themselves. Though they never dug up any of my plants. Every fish is different though.

Maybe Ill keep an eye out for a little big larger JD that I can put in with the Oscar. Really like the harmony in my 75 gallon and hate to mess that up.
Thanks everyone for your advice.

Here is just an entirely different opinion.
I don't think JDs belong with oscars, or angelfish. Bothe angels and oscars are from South America, JDs from North Americ (Mexico).
Angels and oscars come from neutral to slightly acidic waters, JDs from hard alkaline waters, that at times can be slightly brackish.
To me a tank with a JD and oscar, or angelfish and a JD appear goofy, because of the mismatch in geography.
Like I said just an opinion, and I'm sure you will disregard, if geography is unimportant to you.
But I am a bit of a geography stickler in my tanks, when at all possible, below are films I took of JDs in their natural habitat in Mexico, this is what I believe would be normal and proper JD tank mates.
