Hi, I have a 85 gallon tank-72x13x20. I have a male JD a green Texas and a Rapheal catfish. I've been thinking of getting a female JD. Will my other tank mates do well with the breeding pair. Here is a pic of a fish that I want to buy. I think it's a female but I want your guys opinions. Thanks Vince

As long as they actually pair u.. it may hide from the male, it may lip lock some with the Texas too ya never know. I'd get her, JD's are awesome.

that's quite a thin tank width wise, not sure I'd recommend putting a breeding pair in there; I'd buy her sure, but only if separating the male and her to a separate tank. Not a lot of room to escape aggression in there.

I believe if your JDs do pair up and spawn, either your other fish will be killed in that size tank, or the JDs will die trying to defend their spawn.
Also, just because you put a male and female together, doesn't mean they will be compatible, just throwing a random female with a male is about 50/50 shot.

Yeah its not like the bar where alcohol is available to solve that problem. Having other species of tank mates with them can kinda bring them together though I find. One on one is too much pressure.

I find this is a good tank footprint given that these fish are not "tank busters" so to speak, the length provides a lot of territory.

It's a female. Interesting tank ... good for display eh? I suspect that if they pair off, they'd end up taking over one end of the tank and push everyone else to the other side. The others need a way to get out of site at the other end.
