JD tankmates...

In a 40 breeder, stick to just 1 larger cichlid (JD or similar) or 2 Convicts would do well. To mix the two would be almost certain death as well as a hightened polution rate as the Cons start breeding, and breeding, and breeding....

It's pretty cruel to mix almost any fish with a breeding pair of any fish similar to convicts. Ever seen the show "COPS" when the cops come to a white trash females house when she's got her kids and abusive, dead-beat boyfriennd around?:WHOA:

Just don't do it! Take care of the fish and give them some room to have a buffer and they will raise more young. At any rate they will remain happy and healthier than if stuffed in a tight glass box.

Nice pair of JD's

I'd go with a single male dempsey and some dithers. maybe some giant danios or a 4-6" rainbow species. :) if you add more cichlids to the mix I think you will have problems as they reach adult size. I'd definitely agree with others who have said don't go with a convict pair and another cichlid. that would be a really bad idea, imo. :grinyes:

could I put a pair of convicts in there too add a consant supply of feeders? Or will they most likely try to kill the JD?

Yes,

but i would have ten g set aside and the cons that survive to and inch.. Pull em out for an hour or so and then toss em back in they will get eatin HEHEHE
