JD with corys

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Putting smaller fish in with bigger fish is always somewhat of a risk... but what makes this combination twice as risky is the fact the Dempsey will likely choke on the cories... as they have tall sharp spines which are part of a naturally evolved defense mechanism... So each fish is deadly to the other...

while probably a no, if the jd grows up with them they might get along.
It's possible but you'll never know when it might suddenly attack the cories which is why the consensus is no.

Id agree.

Oddly, there was an interesting article in PFK last month about cories.

Seems that all species are capable of release a powerful neuro-toxin from their gill when scared. It's designed to kill the predator that's grabbed the cory, got it stuck in its mouth, and gets a gill full of poison for its trouble.

Certainly put cories up im my estimation. Ruthless little buggers :) Certainly wouldnt risk them with bigger fish based on their spines alone.

And that is why I said probably a no. I had one in my oscar tank a few years ago and they left him alone. BUt fish have their own personalities so you can never know 100%.

Mixing JD and Cory is definitely taking your chances.
