JD's just laid eggs!?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
female did not fan them or they were not fertile. it sucks but you did it once you can do it again. keep your head up.

She didnt leave their side... must be a dud-job on the males behalf.. having said that it was a big battle to keep the big polleni out of the spawn site.

What happened was I spotted the JD's in the breeding dresses (never seen them look so sexy) with what looked to me to be their genitailia out. The female was chasing everyone away (highly abnormal) from the rock while the male hovered and did this shivering motion; on a side note the male shivered over the 3 or so sites I saw cleaned a day prior.

Long story short we tampered with the site and had to build it up with driftwood and rock in order to keep the polleni from 'sitting' in 'his' spot. Could all this tampering screw up the males fertilizing, because they were stopped by the polleni and myself atleast 5-6 times while they were desperately trying to do their thing.

Either way the past 48 hours were filled with high and lows, I keep trying to distract my dismay with the fact they will do it again and ill eventually get it right. I can only imagine to think how rewarding pulling it off would of been.

you did good on your part just keep up the good work and water changes it will happen again. i had a pair of dovii that would spawn every 3 weeks. so turn the temp up a little and do a big water change in about a month and it will happen again.

How big are your JDs?? get them their won 30 gal, let them settle down, let them lay their eggs, do their stuff and let them hatch, after about 6 days, take mummy and daddy out and put them into the big tank again, and raise the kids on BBS and flake, if they fail again, leave them to it they will get used to it eventually, 1st time isent always a success :Y:
