Jealousy about fish and fish tanks..

One of our fights/bickering was when I got my blood parrots. He kept saying and whining how he has always wanted blood parrots. And I got annoyed and said well go get some then. He got mad and yelled at me "I am too broke!"
Well, I am sorry but his financial problems are not my problems, and I don't think I should stop living or stop expanding my hobby because he is in a bind. I didn't put him in a bind, and he didn't have to come with me to the LFS when I got more fish! grrr...

With an attitude like that he is not the kind of person I would want around anyway so it may be best if you just end it now if he can't grow up.
I am assuming he is young from the sound of it? I am almost 30 with my second child on the way and the only one who is jealous and nasty because of my tanks is my 10 year old brother who tells mom he needs a big tank because I have big tanks.
None of my friends hate on me about my fish, they all know how hard I have worked for what I have and are all very impressed with my tanks and the happiness they bring me like a true friend should be.
Tell him to grow up or go buy a helmet as life will be very hard on him if he's that bent out of shape about your setup(s).

if he was your friend he would be happy for you, and want to work together with you to learn and grow as fishkeepers. since you said he is an ex friend, i wouldnt waste your time and energy even dealing with him anymore-its obvious he isnt a true friend to you..btw he can get a bigger tank on craigslist for dirt cheap-hes just whining about his miserable (self induced, though) life. lol
