I was gonna say that a gunked up impeller might cause some drag, but sounds like you have a controller issue.

I'd expect extra drag on the impeller to increase the power draw

I’m not sure what happened, and I’m having trouble finding a controller replacement. If you want to explore the option of getting a replacement controller, I would contact Fish Street since they were the first importers of the DCP pumps.

As good a value as they generally are, some Jebao dc pumps are prone to controller issues.

Also from what I understand the pumps' max. wattage will be affected by head pressure (and voltage going in) -- they're kind of self regulating so they won't burn themselves out -- my brand new DCQ-3500 will only show a max 23 watts out of 28 watts on the controller due to about 11-12 feet of HP it's dealing with.
