i run a jebao which i believe are very similar filters as jebo. i have also run an eheim classic 2215, the supposed king of filtration. the jebao is far better and costs half the price of the 2215. its been running constantly for over 1.5 years now without a problem.
Hmmm.... I want to put the one that is recommended for 100 Gallons or less on my 30 gallon. That shouldn't be a problem if there is weak flow, It would be going into a planted aquarium anyways. Thanks for the responses. Lets keep this thread going by sharing your experiences or for that matter what you would recommend instead. If you had a bad encounter with a Jebo please tell me why
This is what happened to me, it was about 5 years ago so the memory is a little fuzzy. I can't remember if I origionally bought 2 or 4 in a lot purchase on ebay from Jebo. but I ended up with 2 that worked and a bunch that were used for spare parts.
Plus these were like under $40 each at the time, maybe because I bought so many? cant remeber, but not worth it even at that price.
so,
When they arrived they were shattered. There was no foam or padding around the boxes, they just put address on them and sent them out.
So I complained and they send another batch.
This time I think 2 out of the 4 wernt shattered.
So I then had to mis match and swap parts out of all my shattered ones to get the 2 working, because even the two that wernt shattered had broken parts, disconnects ect.....
The 2 that worked quickly decreased in performance till flow was a trickel at best.
Then one started leaking and warped the bottom of my wood cabnet and made a mess.
I got so pissed that I threw them all away!
I wouldn't even want to give these away because there that bad.
IMHO,
maybe they have gotten better in shipping these but I doubt quality has gone up.
My vote for canister filter is the Eheim 2217, search around online and find the best price on the kit with all the media and disconnects ect. should cost about $140
I think it's important to distinguish between the sellers and the filters themselves. Filters arriving shattered sounds like a shipping problem since the seller didn't package them correctly.
From reading reviews on this and other forums I get the impression that there is (or at least used to be) a quality control issue with Jebo filters that were sent out. A number of people complained about receiving filters that were defective right from the start, but those us who got ones that worked well initially have generally been very pleased with them.
I've owned a total of 5 jebo/jebao filters since 2004 and my newer Odyssea CFS4s are definitely much better designed than the original Jebao 828s I had on my old tank. They've been running for about 3 years on my current setup without any issues.
As I said initially, I think it's unreasonable to compare an incredibly cheap Jebo filter to an Eheim. That's like telling someone who's in the market for a Scion that you'd recommend a Mercedes instead. If you have the money to spend on an Eheim you wouldn't be looking at Jebos.
That being said, I think my newest CFS4s beats the pants off my old Fluval 304 and Rena XP2. It's better designed, has better flow and way more media capacity even though it was cheaper.
I should mention that while I've been very happy with their filters, I bought a Jebo compact fluorescent light a few years ago and that was a real POS. Terrible design, bad wiring and a serious fire hazard, so I definitely don't vouch for their other products.
