Jehmco 500W titanium heater/controller...Reviews please!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To be fair it's not their controller. It's a ranco controller and they feel it's necessary to cover up ranco with their name. I have a ranco controller that works well. I got it from a different supplier, so it still says Ranco on it like when they built it. Mine has a plastic cover over the sensor which was suggested, because the sensor the way it comes isn't meant to be submerged. I actually just ordered another one of them I like it so much.

That is because Jehmco pays good money to Ranco to rebrand the controller. Much like grocery stores do to the off-label brands. Most likely, Ranco put the labels on for them.

I have three or four of these and I love them. never had an issue. Although I will add that I found some conversations on-line a couple of weeks ago about how the temperature probes should be sealed as they are not technically water-tight. A dab of silicone around the top should suffice. I'm going to check mine out the next time I get the chance. Something to think about although I haven't had any issues.

It is working great! For some reason the visitherm heaters I had in there before had a problem keeping the tank at the right temp. Within 3 hours of plugging in the jehmco the tank was stable at 78 degrees. To be honest though, I think the readout on the ranco controller is off by one degree. The three other thermometers I have on the tank all read 78 when the controller is set to 79.

They sent me a replacement when my temp display started going haywire since it was under the 6 month warranty period - and they put plastic shrink over the temperature sensor. Sounds like this has affected some other people too....

I have 6 of these Rancho controllers and they all work great. I cooked a Cuban Gar a couple months ago with a $10 heater in a grow out tank and that will never happen again! The nice thing about the separate controller is the redundancy factor. I set my heaters to 90 and I set my controllers to 80. If for some reason the controller fails in the on state then hopefully my heaters will only temp up to the 90 degree point and cut off there not cooking my fish.

So far the Rancho controllers are working fine.

It seems unlikely that Ranco is putting the labels on for them. The Ranco controller looks high quality and so does the Ranco label. The Jehmco label looks as cheaply done as their website, so I'd think they're making the labels themselves.

Since you said Jehmco was paying Ranco to put their labels on in such a matter of fact type way I decided to check it out. I didn't know if you were stating a fact that you know Jehmco is paying Ranco to put their labels on or making an assumption and trying to push it on us as fact. I emailed Invensys Controls and asked if they knew Jehmco was covering up their Ranco name on the controllers with Jehmco instead. I'll let everyone know what I find out when they get back to me.
