jellybean bp's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Someone else breed pink cons and BPs and show me the jellybeans that surely result.

I couldn't figure out what my "painted parrot" that I bought was. I thought jellybean, then happened across a picture of a fish EXACTLY like her....guess what, it was a pink con!!

Anyways, Try it, Spikespet, and be sure to post the pictures of your results!!

(BTW, why do they call them Jellybean CONVICT cichlids if they're in fact a hybrid?)

Just because you can't for a fact nail something down, and you think your information is always correct, doesn't mean that you have to degrade yourself, and everyone around you by name calling.

They are called jelly bean cichlids. Jelly bean also refers to "dyed" parrots. So jelly bean cichlids, and jelly bean parrots, but no jelly bean convicts.....Stick around for a while you will see.....and :chillpill: a little bit....

please don't take it as name calling. i hope people refer to me as silly also.
just that around my area they are called jellybean parrots. and i have never seen con x con produce that.
and again i am sorry if u took it wrongly

as my name implies im a dork. please understand it was all playful and i am really the silly one right now :)

Fishtankdork, you are understood...:)

Big spizz, look it up on google. My fish looks exactly like a pink con, but was sold as a painted parrot, explain this to me, since I'm obviously missing something.

First 2 picture links, my fish, same name I've been finding....the keywords? Jellybean Cichlid. throughout those searchpages Jellybean convict is used with some frequency.

i hate to be a nay sayer but when people say jbs are just shortbodied cons i am reluctant to believe it. i have owned cons, and ownded jbs, and imo jbs have nicer body structures, fins and head

thinking jbs are shortbodied cons seems to me like wishful thinkin. just like red texas, u don't always get one at the first stages of ur breeding project. also it looks like u croseed barred con/ bp. i wouldve tried pink con and smallest bp female u could find, then i wouldve have kept breeding back to the con for small size and towards the end back to the mom for tail/head/body
the prob with ur barred cross is that blood parrots and cons have bars in their genes so u prob would have to cross back to mom <or if the father was pink back to him> to get nice white/pink ones

i have a jb with long warped tail and a massive kok. i refuse to believe it is striaght con

show me dna test. or better yet, someone breed two cons and get a jb and post pics. ill never doubt again.

You obviously have not seen a big chunky convict with a nucheal hump. JB's nucheal humps just look more apparent because they are so short. Not to mention the genetic issue. Explain to me how the offspring of a pink convict and blood parrot can be pink like a pink convict when the parrot does not carry the pink convict genes.Which are recessive btw so breeding a pink con to a striped con that does not carry the pink gene will not even produce pink fry. The fish I posted is what you get when you cross a pink(or striped for that matter) convict and blood parrot. If anyone has picture proof to the contrary I would love to see it.

Yes I have pictures of the parents and no I dont have pictures of the breeding process. It happened while I was at work. Its not a Vieja x con as 1)I didnt have a vieja at the time and 2) By the time a Vieja is big enough to breed it would be too large to pair with a con.
