i use to have a p that looked EXACTLY like that. Was black all year round and had gold specs to it. Was a beautiful piranha, big too. It was about 8 inches when it passed away.

Looks like reds are black in fashion

I think you may have been one of the lucky ones then sqratch as the renowned Piranha author and scientist Fink detailed a certain type of P.nattereri found in certain stretches showed a total black colouration all year and had gold "spangels" on their flanks.

oh didn't know it was that rare. I did pay quite a bit for it tho. I wish i still had pictures. I had it when predatoryfish.net was still around

I have seen very few p's like that before. The guy who turned me onto piranha years and years ago had one in particular just like that in his schol. After some investigating on the matter we found that it was a silular type of pygo that a rare fish dealer said gets put into the rounds with smaller reds when shipped to this country. You can't tell when their small but when they grow into their colors they stay that way. And stay that way he did. The fish is still in a 150 show tank in california alive and kicking. the damn thing is like ten years old. My buddy tells me that he has never changed colors and is just different than all the rest. That fish is definietly different than your typical red and probably holds a bit more value too. Anyway cool fish they are hard to find like that in my opinion if he is what i think he is.

Sweet demon!! :headbang2
