Jewel Cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats odd firemouths are among the weakess of cichlids im real surprised the jewel hasn't killed it yet, but with only acouple of fish in the tank, they prob will continue to lock up, especially if there the same sex, one thing you have to watch is that some jewels sp, will not stop the beating on other cichids, they will contiune to beat on another fish espically like i said if it is of the same sex.

I dont know about a Jewel beating up CA/SA type fish, but then again that depends on the fish. Inch for inch they are very tough though, but in all honesty, ive never had any issues housing them, except that they stay around 4 inches and turn into a pretty goldfish when the CA/SA's get big enough to eat it. :(

Nice looking fish especially in breeding colors.

Oh and for the guy asking about the Salvini and Jewel locking up, they are just testing each others power right now being that you said they are close to the same size. Basically trying to establish a pecking order amonst themselves. I would be careful though, in that set up you may want to watch the firemouth, hopefully since they are being raised together since young they'll get along, if not, the jewel or more likely the Salvini will kill it eventually. Oh and I can almost assure you that in 1 or 2 months most, the Salvini will be running the tank and possibly the only fish in the tank. Hopefully it works out for you, good luck.

The salvini is going to be aggressive, but will probably be the most attractive fish in your tank. If it kills everything in there, it will still make a nice display

it all depends i what you consider good looking, a really nice breed hemichromis lifalili has , really great color, it looks like a swiming strawberry, the salvini like alot of sa/ca cichlids really surprse you with how nice they end up looking, i use to be into the them alot, the dovi, and grammodos where my two fav, but now im more into having more fish in a tank, anyway good luck to all of you.
