Jewel Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
so im guessing adding a jewel in my 55g with 2 jds is not such a good idea huh?

Just give hiding spots and try it out. I had ***hole fish. Yours might not be as mean. But sometimes JDs will team up and pick on fish. All anyone here can say is that you might be ok, and you might not. Aggression depends on the personalities in your tank. Bottom line.

thanks yea i have two female jds.which sux because i always assumed i had a pair.but after hearing some comments on my jds everybody says i have two females.

I dont know what to do???should i get a male jd or a jewel cichlid??? On one hand i might be able to breed jds.(i have two females)

On the other hand getting a cool jewel cichlid would be a different approach.
they both bring something to the table.
1 JD Male makes frys and boom i have little jd frys

2.Jewel cichlid bring color and excitement(fights) and boom i have crazy action going on.

CHOICES i have

wow my g/fs jewel looks nothing like that. Granted its in a new world tank with a jackdempsey and convicts and such. But man those are really red. Hers is like a pinkish color with blue dots.

i would say if you really want the jewel go ahead and try it, I don't think you will get any more money for jewel cichlids though because they are pretty easy to breed. Everyone around here always is trying to get rid of them by giving them away.

Just don't worry abuot making money basically is what I am saying. Get what you want that will please you.

Oh and my G/f's jewel is the king of her tank. Its a pretty aggressive fish I think. JD will fight with them becasue they look siorta similar (hers always did) but the JD was much more passive and would just swim away or just lay under a hiding spot. 2 completely different personalities.
