jewles and oscars?

I've got two jewels living with my Oscars and I've no problems either way.

All seem to swim around quite happily, never even seen them pay much attention to each other.

The only problem I had with keeping my jewels and oscars together was when the oscar was really small. Oscars are big wusses compared to other cichlids. I ended up getting another oscar and all the aggression between everyone disapeared.

Personally, I like the red jewels (Lifalili) over the turquoise jewels.

in my opinion the red jewels look awesome especially when paired male and female. the red gets really intense. one of my favorite fish, well that was until my red terror thought they looked pretty neat also and decided to turn them from red to brown.

That is why the Jewel should always be smaller.

I am suprised how many people have kept their Jewles in with SA fish. I had 2 in a SA tank and they did ok for a while but then they slowly got sick and their fins turned black. I thought it was because of the water PH. The told me at the LFS that they were South American, not African. Did not find out the truth till they were in the tank.

Really nice looking fish though.

Jewels are african, but are from west africa and not the rift lakes. West african waters tend to be more like south american waters in terms of hardness and pH, which is why they are often mixed.
