Ichthyology which is most likely a master program. Eupterus, I feel bad for you since things did no go the way you planned them to go. I am just gonna let things ride on out for the next couple months and come into college fresh. I kinda know what I want to do, but I'm still not sure. Right now I just want to sleep. I talked to someone in the field I want, and he said you are going to bounce around a lot trying to move up. No monster tank of my own until I get a really good job. Hopefully, I can find a good job at a big aquarium and zoo.

well the owner of Sea World make a great pay not sure if it's the highest

Sea World is owned by Anheuser-Busch. It would never have made it off the ground except for the outside funding from aclohol sales.

It takes big money to make big money in the fish world. And once you are "owner" or "head" of something, 9 times out of 10, you are at a desk, not even thinking of animals. You're tied up in paper work of running a business.

I'm studying Biology/Marine Biology in college right now......I have downsized my majors and carreer choices to two:

--->Something dealing with Marine Biology/Oceanography/Photography/Feild Reporting...

....and if this fails.....

--->my fallout carrer would be in the Nursing field....Office Admin. Nursing Support or, maybe, body-contact type of Nursing(yuck!)...

Sea world still barley makes money after maintaining the animals and paying the employees. I think since they do a lot of rescue work it is a bit of a tax write off for them.
I used to work there and off all the theme parks/retail joints i've worked in it seemed to be the smallest money maker.

Like all jobs, its always fun and interesting for the first few years, afterwards it becomes mundane/tedious..in other words "just a job".

Unfortunately its human nature. Think about it, as humans we love stimulation, and once its gone we move on to something different.

If you eat chocolate everyday for 5 years straight you'll be sick of it. Only few jobs out there might provide the continuous stimulation to keep you going, but fish related jobs might not cut it. Unless you happen to a Jacques Cousteau type, yeah, I can see it being very enjoyable for a long time. :grinno:

Like that old saying:
"Whats the difference between a job and a wife of 25 years? The job still sucks!"

I talked to a proffesor at a college that I applied to and he said the only way to get anywhere in a zoo or aquarium setting is to move around. There are only so many places but lots of people, you gotta have an edge if you want to get anywhere.

Stay in school kids.

I completely agree that you have to move around to get ahead in the aquarium business. Right now I am working at an aquarium that I love, but it just doesn't have potential for getting bigger and better. I am currently up for positions at two other aquariums in two completely opposite locations. The main thing is YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO MOVE!! If you aren't willing to, you will hit a dead end in the zoo/aquarium world and you won't be happy anymore. I have seen it happen to many people. Do what makes you happy, but always remember that you love what you do. You won't get any money to buy you your happiness
