Joining two above ground ponds to central filter

I used your diagrams schematically, not to scale. The sump could be a rain water tank or 55 gallon blue barrel beside a pond.

If you did link the 2 ponds together as one, the second pond is acting as your sump.

There are multiple variations so you will need to decide what is best for your situation.
