JR is looking great and really geting big. Beautiful tank too BTW, love the Platies. Great job Scott!

Thanks Buddy, I really appreciate it. One thing our guys definently have in common is their intense coloration. I like the platies alot more then the mollies thats for sure.

Unbelievable to see a Midas and betta swimming side by side. How lucky you are to have such a mellow guy!

Whats funny about this is I have always had a big passion for Bettas and bred them alot before I got bit by the cichlid bug thanks to cichlidscene. Its awsome that the two fish I was most passionate about are in the same tank.

Nice Midas......his colors are popping!
Me and the kids have actually been using the "It's popping" temr alot since my wife hates the lip gloss son. lol. Classic

I'm as impressed by the unorthodox stocking as I am with the size of Jr. Jr. keeps getting bigger! Good job with him and the tank.

Thanks Gruff, I still warn others against this with their cichlids as 99% of the time it wouldn't work. Just turns out I have that 1%. I have already seen others do Tiger barbs.

Thats amazing one of kind fish. wish my cichlids were like that lol

Thanks, the only other I had like this was my old Oscar. He wouldn't eat a guppy, yet a crayfish wouldn't touch the bottom.

Loved seeing the betta swimming around with the big chap. Amazing.
Definently, some times the Betta doesn't even move for him and they will just sit there until one changes route. It's kind of funny.

Very cool setup dude! Yeah his girth is awesome too.

He definently is a chunk. Doesn't miss a pellet. If I had his girth I wouldn't pass my PT tests. lol

Modest_Man;4904389; said:
Does he not dig either? Mine could care less about small community fish but those plants would be dug up for sure!

Yeah, the spot on the left side of the tank I left bare for him there is a slight hole. I just have some small grass around it. Part of the secret is you have to leave a spot for them to have clear. The rest is fine. Plus live plants after being left alone for a couple weeks are alot harder to dig up then fake ones. Also are harder to get a hold of then fake plants.

He's thick! Does his fins have clear edging like tail?
Yep, especially on the Dorsal. I will see if I can get some descent pictures. One day I will invest in a real good camera like yours or Mo's Boon. I think the reef lighting makes it hard on the camera's pictures. Not to mention the Black wrapping paper I use as the background as I don't want to paint the back black and I can't find a background large enough. Seems the whole fish world as far as retail goes has stopped making standard 125g's and everything that goes with them. I have been to several Petco/Petsmarts and have yet to find any in the past 2yrs from Oklahoma to Nevada.

Awesome fish!!! Crazy set up!!! I'm glad it works... I want to try a Betta now!!!

Didn't think I wanted one and the fact he was shrimpy worried me, but he has grown into a large, bruttish male.

Looking very good and the water is crispy too, great job !

Yep, thats thanks to the plants, filtration, and water changes.
Filters = 2 Rena Xp3's with sponge filters on the intakes. 2 Aquatec 60's, an a penguin 280(I beleive) in the middle.
Water changes are 2/3's of the total tank once a week. Empty it into the yard and use some for the house plants. Nothing goes to waste;)
