Installed a Aqueon 950 powerhead into my 75 gallon tonight. All the fish seemed to love it. I created a nice circular flow in the tank using one of my canister filters outputs on the other side of the tank adjacent to where the powerhead is directed. Tank is fish only w/no live rock, so I decided to turn the powerhead off with the same timer switch the lights are on. This Aqueon uses very low voltage though, so I might leave it on 247 - what do you guys think?

Anyway, THANK THE LORD my tank is in the kitchen, which is 10 feet from our master bedroom door. I climb into bed and I hear water splashing, then the sound of a fish smacking the hardwood floor....

I run in there and my schizophrenic foxface (rabbitfish) must of got spooked by the new black monster looking device mounted in the upper corner of the tank.....he had jumped. I got him back in there within seconds and he is fine.

Put my cover on (have not used in years, I built it when one of my freshwaters jumped), which will now stay on while I am sleeping, and at work....

Crazy rabbitfish.....what can you do.
:D

Definitely run the powerhead 24/7.

Glad to hear you heard the Foxface and were able to save him. I would leave the cover on at all times, or if you don''t like how it looks then make/buy one that does. You don't want to forget to put it back on and have this happen again when you aren't around, or even when you are around for that matter.

Turn it off for feeding though right? I usually turn everything off when I feed.

You can, but you don't have to. Your fish will eat the food floating around in open water just fine. I have found that I get a better feeding response if fish feel they need to swim around and work to get the food. It definitely helps for new fish that aren't eating.

You can build a clear mesh top for the tank that will help keep fish in and allow the top of the tank to breathe without blocking much light. It works well on reef aquariums.

Commercial flourecent light screens aka Egg-creates @ Home Depot work well also.

This is actually what I am thinking of picking up. Only 12 dollars to. And these come in 4x2, which is almost perfect for my 75, will not require a lot of cutting/modding.

Years ago, I constructed a nice wood cover with a handle to match the tank. It sets a few cm's off the top allowing air and fits in front of the light (the light sits in back flush to the tank). I ordered a new light though, so this cover will no longer work, since it was measured and cut to fix around my older (existing light).

LOL , to continue onto this.. i "had" a foxface with my coral catshark, went downstairs yesterday morning missing fish... i think he may of jumped but theres no sign of him, neither shreds of him in the tank... any ideas guys ?

Is your tank have drilled with baffle covers? I lost a baby hippo tang and pixie hawk - both later found living well in the baffles.
