Hi all i posted a while ago about my silver being very jumpy since i returned from my hols . Hes eaten floating sticks but hes still jumping into the top about 6 times a night, hes damaged his back fin now and getting worreid his last jump is just round the corner any ideas to stop him jumping so much thanks

Is your tank blacked out or dimly lit at night? Often aros can be spooked by their tankmates at night if they cannot see them.

Lights on all time his tank mates where rays up untill last week and now he as a flagtale and id but the jumping as not got any better or worse . I have a big air stone in tank he swims round the bubbles all day long and nothing else untill he jumps , could that be spooking him

mine used to be real jumpy but i left a night lite on for them and no it is fine...you said lights on all the time? you should have the main lights off at night with a small night lite...like the moonlight in the wild

You leave the lights on 24/7? Isn't that a form of torture? Seems wierd that your aro only jumps at night, maybe from shadows or images outside the tank.

I think I would start turning the main lights off and only light up the tank at night to a very dim level.

6 times while iam sat in room so dunno how many times while iam not in room . I have turned the air stone off and the right side of tank lighting see what happings tonight. I was only leaving the lights on at night to see if that was the prob i normly turn them off

turn your lights off at night, fishes need sleep to too and it forms a day and night cycle for them as well.try putting some floating plants in your tank as it might make the aro feel alot safer. i think bderick will agree with the plants idea too

Floating plants definetly work with smaller aros. With larger aros they more or less just take up swimming room. Just going of memory, Carolines your aro is 15" in a 6'x3'or4' tank? So it's roomy enough tank you could try some floating plants.

Does your aro actually jump and hit the top or do you just hear it splashing the surface water?

Just add air stones off and lights off was going ok then hes just jumped yes he hits the top hard if it was glass i think he would have been dead already but its plastic see through sheeting so hes getting away with it for now , i will try the plants the tank is 6L4w2h **** he done it twice as i wrote this
