Hey-

I have a 125 with (See Sig) and I have been keeping Giant D's with them, I have had sucess in the past with the Giant D's but recently I have have 4 Jumpers. (It seems to nly happen when the Lights are off) I have a Gap of only around 1-2" in the front and am wondering what could be the cause?? Sure my Cat loves it! :irked: But I wonder if it (they) is/are getting harrassed by my Texas, or my O. (He will be moving to another home soon) to make room for a Jag.

What could be causing this??
Is there a better Dither that would work??
How could I correct this??

And I know "Close the Gap" but I would rather move them, as closing the Gap would reqiure me to put stuff on the tank that is not a good option for me.

Damn Cat has been having a field day! She is too old to be "Fishing" but she just seems to hang around the tank (Never on top) and wait for the Sushi.

Thanks again for any and all help!

I Have once had a Giant D jump, my Wife scream as MY cat grabbed it, then got chased around by Her cats (2) and the Fish is in her mouth, was able to catch my cat, Grab the Giant D out of her mouth and then save him by rinsing him off and re interdoucing him to the tank. He lived a good long time, (3 more years) with Teeth marks on his mid section. I wish I ahd pics of this. but alas do not. It recieved a name that would be his Badge of Honor..

danios like to run up stream do you have your output for your filter pointing down if you do try directing it across the top of the water..

I have 3 Emps. and 2 big PH's with attachments that direct the stream across the top (So everbody can eat, not just the Big Pig Oscar)

i think your others are getting big enough to think the danios are food now? and someone is trying to hunt for them when lights go out. either or, if u replace with a jag, he/she will deffinatly eat them someday. if u need dithers, y not try some silver dollars? they grow large enough and have a awkward shape. this will discurrage the others from eating them.

Cool, but are Silver Dollars be fast enough?? I can understand the shape......

Are they Jumpers as well??

Your Danios are jumping because they are fearful for their lives. Silver Dollars are a good choice, but another would be tinfoil barbs. They are very fast and get at least as big as the silver dollars if not bigger.

My danios jump every now and then too. But my cat doesn't eat them. He just plays with them until they dry up, or until they flop somewhere he can't reach them. (Like under my stove.) I would suggest silver dollars as well, but they should be good sized, at least 3 inches long, and a group of 3-5, if they are going straight into the 125. Tinfoils get very large, 12-13 inches, and are schooling fish, so I wouldn't recommend those for your tank, (based upon your sig) unless you get rid of some fish, or upgrade to a larger tank.

Side note: A jag will definitely make those danios jump, as I lost six in a week, back when mine was a two incher, in a 29g. I found three on the floor.

I've got a couple of 6" Silver Dollars in my 200g and they are psycho's - - afraid of everything. I used them to cycle the tank but subsequently they were no help in "dithering" later additions (bocourti, NG dat, rotkeil severum). I added three modest size tinfoils and the effect was dramatic, much more activity with even the cowardly Dollars swimming about. They are still very skittish, though. Nothing rattles the tinfoil barbs though they're half the size (length).

Now I face the unenviable task of catching the Silver Dollars in my 6x3 tank so I can replace them with more worthy specimens.
