Picked up this guy yesterday and the other catfish in the bag was dead. I am a bit concerned that the water might have been pretty bad because he is not eating yet.

Anyone else have any problems getting this cat to eat right away? are they picky eaters?

He is also hanging out at the top of the tank a lot which seems a bit strange.

The tank he is in has been cycled for about 6 months and has a ton of o2 in it from a power head with a venturi right at the top of the water. He is right around 3"

Appreciate any input :)

i have not had a jur before but i do have 3 tigs and a TSN... it took all of them a week to 2 weeks to start eating... give it time... are you trying to feed it the same thing it was on?

do u keep the lights on or off? did u give it any hideing spots? try feeding it worms

they,or I should say, most baby cats can be picky eaters and I have seen many stay at the top of the tank like that, especially jur's and TSN's.As others suggested, blood worms usually do the trick and also try small guppies, white clouds or minnows. They usually come around eventually.I've had babies that I had to actually hold the bloodworms to their mouth but they would take them this way in good amounts.Try it out.You just might need to parent them by hand feeding until they come around.

They also feed at night so give them some darknes

Agreed, kept mine in the dark for 2 weeks surrounded by small minnows.
I have him off live food now, he eats shrimp, crawfish, tilpia, beefheart.

GL there a great fish!

Thanks gang, I have tried the darkness thing. Glad to hear that his behavior is normal I was mainly worried because he was shipped from the supplier to my LFS with a fish that didn't make the trip in the same bag.

I will have to pick up some live food tomorrow. The only problem is that the 2 pbass in the tank will smash them all pretty fast :(.

agree... either get enough to fill the pbass up... or seperate them til you can get them eating...
