I walked in the room right now and noticed my juruense was swimming all over the place with its mouth open and a huge belly....i havent fed him for about 2 days and none of the fish are missing....I think he may have swallowed a bunch of gravel so what should i do?!!!! Need help quick!!!

if your jurunese will eat keep feeding it until it pukes, thats what some dude did when his rtc ate a rock or something

my hybrid ate two huge rocks, and they were in there for about 2 months, finally I got tons of night crawlers stuffed him until he puked. Out came two rocks bigger than a silver dollars.

Oh man I really hope he didn't just swallow a bunch of gravel... I don't know what to tell you to do.. But if you're lucky he might end up regurgitating it...

im pretty sure he did since i havent fed him and no fish are missing :(

i hope this works...hopefully he will puke them out if i feed him alot...if he will eat....one of my fav fish hope he makes it :(

Get rid of your gravel to prevent future repeat. My TSN used to choke on gravel quit often especial trying to eat carnivore pellets, which are smaller than the gravel. Now it's in a barebottom tank without eating and gravel related problem.

Came home last night and the juruense was dead :( along with 4 2" pbass....no idea what happened...this f ing sucks!! There was nothing wrong with the pbass when i left to work last night they were acting normal begging for food when i got near the tank....couldnt do anything cuz i had to go to work but was going to try and see what the problem was when i got back but it was too late...the juruense was like all white with purple blotches and you could see the veins popping out weird and the pbass were just dead...i touched the water and it seemed kinda hot and the heater was broken but the thermometer only read 86 (i know this is high but dont think that would kill all of them) unless the therm was broken too.....those were the only fish in the tank...it was a growout....man this sucks....i just dont get what happened with the juruense why it was soo fat? Anyone know what couldve happened???

if your heater was broken that means that electrical current was able to flow into the water. This happened to me once. I went to get a piece of debris out of the tank and got the shock of my life. I was stunned. So i tried again lol, and bam again shocking. I tried in a different spot and no curent. The electricity was following the water flow. Could stress out your fish over time and have all kinds of wierd side effects. I swear by titanium heaters now. Especially when keeping medium to large catfish. Catfish are notorius for eating heaters and breaking them. Sorry for your loss. That is truely sad. If you really want to know why his belly is swollen. Disect him. It will help you learn what to do better in the future when keeping catfish. I don't think those temps that you mentioned are much of an issue. I know it sucks, but trust me now you know what was wrong you have a chance to do things better. We've all been there and done that. Use titanium next time if you are going to have large fish, or put it in your sump if you have a sump filter tank. Good luck, and again it's a very sad loss.
