It's WAY more complicated than just spangles and no spangles. . . it's more about the breeding strategies. As for the red faced ones, that is a regional color varient. Cool fish all around, Satanopercas are all great fish.
Over the last two years in my area, leucostictas have been rare while most of the fish listed as jurupari have actually been true jurupari ... so the odds might be evening up as to how much of which is in the LFS.
Wow, that pic is intense!! Never seen one that red before but I want a million of them in my tank, haha. So how do I know if I'm getting a leuco or a juru when they're only 1-2" long?
