i had some jurupari and they were starting to color up when i got rid of them. either way they're fun fish and very interesting.

It's WAY more complicated than just spangles and no spangles. . . it's more about the breeding strategies. As for the red faced ones, that is a regional color varient. Cool fish all around, Satanopercas are all great fish.

Ray is right, try finding this variant of S. Leucosticta at your LFS... Found this online (not mine) a while back and just love it.

Over the last two years in my area, leucostictas have been rare while most of the fish listed as jurupari have actually been true jurupari ... so the odds might be evening up as to how much of which is in the LFS.

Wow, that pic is intense!! Never seen one that red before but I want a million of them in my tank, haha. So how do I know if I'm getting a leuco or a juru when they're only 1-2" long?
