nice and simple. i actually think the darkness on the ends works very well
 
Thats how a Cichla tank should look! In reality that lighting is pretty close to what they would have in the wild as juvs. They would be tucked away under snags and ledges and buried deep in cover just like that. Thats a killer piece of driftwood too. I think it would look even more sick with 2 other similar pieces on each end added to it. As they got older you would have to clear some room so they could move more freely but as juvies all that driftwood and live vegetation would be killer. Good job man im digging it!

the tank looks great Mike.. are those ferns, annubius? i have to get a new center piece for my tank and i want to try to get some annubius to grow on it.

Thanks man. I can't get enough of this setup. I really cannot wait until my new tank comes to fruition. I've got BIGGGGG plans!

I've just got java fern in here. The bunch in the back is just your average, plain jane java fern and the two smaller bunches elevated are needle leaf variety. I debated anubias for a while, but have never had much luck with it in the past. It was always a matter of time before the leaves became algae infested and the plant wasted away. Plus, plecos and FF don't bother with ferns.
