I know what yo mean. My kamfa would do almost somersaults and beat around the lid, splash water around the tank so as to make a noise and let me know that he is hungry.

But even if he does so, do not feed him no matter what. Feed him on his daily feeding time and amount only. Do not overfeed and make him turn into an oversize FH. It wouldn't look too good. Plus, this will cause the fish to intimidate more due to getting food for its behavior. And this have cause death to some fish for knocking the lid so hard, the lid opens and the next one is out the tank. If not, they just cause severe damage to themselves only.
