Just a few questions on flowerhorns

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They wont push me from the hobby. Like i said i have a ray, aro, and a parrot fish. i wont get out of the hobby. Just stinks that they cant be with anything else. If a do a FH i will be using the 40g breeder for now. And i already have a diy stand built for it. How big do they possibly get? If its a gooood size fish i wont mind letting it have its own tank. But the biggest size ive seen FH is the size of my parrot fish. And hes about 5" from mouth to back fin.

It depends on the strain, certainly not all FH get to 13-14".
If you aren't planning on upgrading your tank in the future, a short body or bonsai FH would be a better choice for a 40 gallon.

^^^^ agree very much......

go with a Short body FH thats what i would do....

i would love to go right now and get one but i cant aford to spend $150-200 right now...

It depends on the strain, I've seen adult SB that have been 8-9" TL.

So a 75g tank for 1 fish basically. Hmmm I can't justify that
I think it lets you get more attached to that fish. I don't know if this is true but I've heard that if you keep them with another fish as there young they have less aggressiveness towards each other. If its true and could get a 125gal + with tons of hiding places I would get a 2 inch FH and a 3 inch SRT with a lot of dithers that would slowly disappear :D.:nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly:

I find that very untrue...that only goes for certain fish with that kind of attitude.

I just picked up a Short Bodied FH myself. I, too, hate keeping him by himself. That is the passion of fishkeeping. But the short body is in a 70g all alone. He is really active in there. He has already made friends or shall I say enemies with my filter intake tubes, UV sterilizer , and the wavemaker. much better off alone in there. Ive read they are much more comfortable and less stressed alone.
