just a question on filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
filtration is enough but will be tons to vacuuming would cut back on plecos and cl a bit. a prefilter helps with wood intake.

Have to agree with Jackson. I grew out 9 royals from 2-3" to 8-11" in a 175g.

Filtration started out with one eheim 2260 and ended up a eheim 2262 and a secondary eheim 2028 pro II six years later.

The royals where fed zucchinio or sweet potatoe every second day with hbh algae grazers/waffers inbetween and one fast day pre week.

The 2028 would need cleaning every 4 weeks, the 2262 every 6-8 weeks.

I have the 2260 and a 2250 with non pleco tanks and service them once every six months.

Royals are filter cloggers !!!!

Ok let me straighten this up my tank is a sand bottom lots of wood xp1 and 2 xp3s. And 2 2100 water circulation pumps. Fish is 20 clown loaches
watermelon pleco7inch

L114 2inch
mustard spot2inch
2 green phantoms 4inch
Red fin blue eye 4inch

2l191 broken lines2inch
1queen arabesque 2inch
1flash pleco4inch
1adonis4inch
1albino bristenose3inch

Still too mucken fuch buddy :)

Imo your tanks on borrowed time due to tank size (too small) and inadequate filtration.

All those plecs are just going to get to be bigger s#!te machines !

Speaking from experience your adonis will end up terrorizing all the plecos in your tank to the point of being too stressed and bullied to eat or kept away from food so that they succumb to sickness and worst case senario death.

And all this before it outgrows the tank. You can bank on it.

Edit; Did have success keeping royal plecos with adonis, they seem to stay out of the adois's way and wait to eat. Just my experience.

LoL

This info is crap.

Oh computer generated info how nice

For educational purposes, could you explain the discrepancies and how you derived your calculations? Thank you.

What calculations?

What I was saying is no computer generated info can compare to experience when dealing with issues like this?

I am not going to trust some stupid program created for ****s and giggles.

Any info I have given plecoking is from experience with this particular species.

I am not reading planetcatfish or aquaadvisor and then relaying the info back in my own words.

I agree with Impala.

Just to add to that-
You are also keeping a large number of carnivores with herbivores. The diets of the carnivores will have a negative impact on the Panaque in the long run if they are kept together for years.
A short period of time should not be that bad for them but then again I can not say for sure.
I have kept them with carnivores as well but separated them after a few months of being together. I chose my Panaque over my Pseudas.

Thank you. I misunderstood. For some reason my brain locked on to the idea that you had some kind of written guidelines that you go buy and I just wanted the data to combine and compare with my personal experience driven way of doing things. I am never to old to learn something new or consider another way of doing things.

Just wondering how come on youtube people have mild filter setups and have a extrme number of different species of plecos and they work just fine and not only that they are crammed in a tank

You can't judge a long term healthy tank just by watching a 2 minute video. This is a large generalisation, but the majority of the tanks you are talking about are from SE Asia and they have different fishkeeping methods/ethos/ techniques.

Spot on

It also comes down to abusing their powers to buy. When every awesome fish is there for the taking they just become another fish. Like most people think about a goldfish ( I don't condone this way of thinking ) if it eats breaths and reproduces respect should be a must. I think this hobby really lacks the respect factor when it comes to the fish,creatures,animals... people keep.

There will always be that rotten apple in the bunch. Best we can do is try to educate others and prevent these mistakes against life from happening.

That's my personal opinion
