Tumwater Wa
Just got this setup on my 150 gallon FW to provide extra filtration and help with any algae in the main tank. Let me know what your Ideas are... I'm running a 300 gph pump on the tower to run water over egg crate. Lots of surface for the algae to grow and not willing to put another light on...

Algae scrubber.
Most have used

instead of the eggcrate.
More area for the algae to "grab" onto.

:iagree:

Use a screen with smaller holes, much more surface area.

I'll look into it but since its on a freshwater and only an extra on my filter im less concerned. Where can I pick up Algae scrubber material??

I got mine from the knitting area at walmart
Just pull the egg crate and replace it with the new stuff.
Go to google and type in algae scrubber and you`ll probably end up with a half billion pages.
Well, maybe not that many.

i do not think the egg crate has sufficient area....

I always wanted to set one up. How loud is the water noise and does water splash everywhere?

Water noise isn't to bad and if you have it setup right then there is no splashing. The thread on this under DIY is great! People gave me a bad time for using egg crate but it seems to be working fine. The algae seems to be growing faster and faster each day now.

No "Hard Time" intended, just the other stuff is more efficient and can support a denser algae growth.
How is your nitrate level?
Any measurable change yet?
