Just an update on the Festae

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I never realized that the old man's mouth was slanted! Till I took this photo

It's funny I been watching these fish grow for almost a decade and I never noticed that till I took a straight on shot.

It's no wonder really. He likes to try to beat up his ol lady! But she doesn't take his crap, that's where that thing on his lip came from she ripped his bottom lip off and it healed with that little growth on it. I guess it was still attached and living so it just healed that way.

She's not perfect either. If you notice she is missing the first two spines on her dorsal. He did that to her long ago when they were still young. He beat her up and took the flesh off those spines and they just fell off after a while.

That's one thing about these big cichlids they are fighters! But I swear they are like an old married couple they hate each other and love each other at the same time.

I can imagine when one of them finally does pass on the other probably won't be far behind.

wow.... real beasts as mentioned above.

I am getting a group of six festae next month as part of my import.. do you have any good info on festae of Ecuador vs those of Peru? ("rio tumbes" are the Peruvian ones)

I've done a lot of searching but what I found was non-definitive.

Love the old weatherd look they have. If there coming up to ten years old I think there in pretty good condition, breeding isn't pretty with alot of species.
