I love live food, it is nature after all. I stopped i don't want to risk the disease incorporated with it , if i could find a cheap disease free way to feed my fish live i would with no hesitation. fortunately for me my gar was an easy break from the live food, he eats floating bloodworms, fish flakes, crickets, prawns he is a pretty easy feed and it took like a few days to convert after live feedings
another one who says it nature after all.just because you guys dont like those feeder fishes it dosent mean they have no life.you just cant throw a fish in a tank with no place to run. you guys are so sad when you lose your pet fish then how can you feed them with other smaller fishes.i dont understand the fact seriously.but no point in argueing.

i hope i get lucky l that that my guy starts eating... tried this morning..left a couple of small pellets with him... do not like to do that..leave food around to contaminate etc. but i figure he may be curious and need time to experiment on his own time..as far as feeding live food ..to each his own on that... it is just not for me... i am not into it... i feel sick seeing it... i cannot hurt any living thing without feeling remorse... thats not like the wild to me... it is me choosing...etc.. and it is against the grain for me.

liz i think the best thing would be to get a couple more of them coz they do well in schools or just return it back to the lfs if u can. its agonizing to wait and watch you fish not eat.i used to literally take the food to his mouth with my hands but he wouldnt even move.hope yours starts to eat soon

Thank you ..there are no more of them available.. i am not in the agonizing time frame yet.. he seems fine.. i just know he will do it soon.. i have to have patience ... it took a little while for my clown knife .. i am not a patient person though... so i have to admit.. it is hard to go through.. i will see what happens tonight..

i don't think they do, and thats not good, they don't contain that much nutrition. I hope yours starts eating soon, you might be able to simulate live movement with some food. as for some things stated earlier, yeah i understand the choosing issue, you sort of pick a fish to die, but if a fish is predatory and meant to eat fish, it should eat fish. Yes i would be upset if my fish died, but severely less so if it was a meal and played into a life cycle.

P.S. Do you eat fish?

Here are my Hujeta's. They are clearly starving to death because they are on a strict diet of there natural food source. Oh and they have every disease and parasite known to man as well. What i am going to do.:nilly::ROFL:

Hi, there!
I was doing research on Boulengerella-characins lately but ended up with a spotted gar.
They are supposed to be a little less jumpy.
Nice fish though!. Good luck!
