Anyone know anything about the Sabretooth Characin?? I heard they are very hard to keep and only live from 6months - 1 year
Just bought a Sabretooth Characin from my LPS looking for tips/advice on them

I have 3 Oscars, 4 Black Convicts, 1 Jack Demp, 2 Plecos in with him, any tips or changes I should make?? My Sabretooth is most important to me right now...

well before it gets moved, let me drop my 2 cents in. my cousin has one in his 90 gallon african cichlid setup w/ convicts, frontosas, and other large cichlids. the sabretooth is the baddest SOB in the tank. they all messed with him once then never again. he takes the occasional chunk out of somebody when they get bold and try to bully. he's on a diet of live bloodworms and white worms. and some homemade frozen recipe my cousin made. the characin is going on 2 years. water changes every other week, tank only filtered by 2 ac 110's
The first thing (or maybe not}you should do is find out just what you have there,most fishstores get in quite a few different types of fishes and they lazily call them all what you purchased.Whatever it is that you have probably should be taken out of that potentially volatile tank,you have boisterous,established cichlids who are probably going to stress it out and kick your sabertooth's ass.It may not happen but your guy is new so the odds are good that it will.
