Just Bought new filstar XP3 and it doesn't work!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you take the lid off the canister flip it over you can see where the impeller is and there is two holes one is for the intake and the other is angled on the side and when its all put together and ready i plug in the pump and water blows out the angeled hole instead of the outtake of the hose that goes back into the tank i put a cap from a chap stick..? lol
and now instead of blowing crazy out of the angeled hole in the canister its blowing into the tank is there supose to be a cap or something???

without the cap there the water just blows in the canister and not into the tank

hmm. I am a bit confused.

I am looking at my xp3 right now and am having trouble understanding what the problem with yours is. Yours does seem to have a lot more air bubbles than mine does..youre sure everything is attached the right way and tight?

Ill go crawl under the tank and really try to see what you are talking about, but i really dont get it. If I was you id take it out, put a 5 gallon full on a countertop, put the xp3 below it, and then now that its out and easy to get to try to figure out why water is not being pushed back out.

What you plug it in right now what exactly happens?

it works the way it should as long as i have that white cap blocking the hole (as shown in the pic).. but i don't think its suppose to be like this

I have 4 xp filters and all run great. Your filter is missing a black plug that fits where you have placed the cap.

Must've been a defect on the assembly line. As the pic above shows you need that plug. Myself I sold the three ehiem filters (two had leaking problems) in favor of the XP3s, which I own seven of.

Well...if there is maybe a part missing and it still does not work I would suggest taking it apart, checking if you have all the pieces and going from there. Much simpler that way than guessing I have learned. Make sure all caps and pieces are tight, oftentimes my xp3 has small issues after taking it apart and everytime it is because a piece of the intake is loose, or the prime cap is not sealed on tight enough, or there is air in the canister itself.

Does it work at all? Like said above real words and pics or better details would help you out.
I have the same problem and for this reason I would not buy another XP3. I got the XP3 and Eheim around the same time. The Eheim Pro II is still running like a champ with absolutely no issue.

well the cap is in and its working so thank you every one for there time and help
