just bought two baby jaguar cichlids

i was thinking about buying a squad of oscars to fill the gap in my 225g tank but in my local fish store i stumbled across a tank of assorted cichlids. all babies. inside was a few tiny jaguars. as ive just lost a massive oscar i thought i'd take a leap of faith and grow them up from scratch. as the man was bagging the up he says "oh it looks like you've got a male and a female" NICE!!!! lets hope they are and breed.




just thought i'd share the news!!! im a little scared because they are very small. i'll have pictures up soon

Congrats! sounds awesome I can't wait to see the little ones.
That would be so cool if they do happen to be a male and female, I hear most are really good parents :-)
 
congratulations hope ya get some wee babe fish. do you have any pictures? i've never seen baby jags before an lfs kinda far away from me had some adult jags but thats it
 
hmmmm. inbreeding? is that a problem. years ago i breed convicts and did not give it a thought. they were same tank in the shop when i bought them. as for photos im gonna let them settle in and im gonna upload shed loads of my fish photos. ive got a terrible lazy streak.

some inbreeding in fish is ok, its just when it gets excessive that problems start to arise, you should be fine with yours i would just not advise to then have their resulting fry breed to each other. but yeah GOOD LUCK, i just saved 2 baby jags that were mixed in with a bunch of "assorted african cichlids" and were really busted up but they are almost healed now and looking great, cant wait to see pics of your new little guys
 
day 2 and they are still alive which is always good. ate some blood worm yesterday and a little flakes today. still really nervous because they are so small. i've only ever raise a few fish from so small. the rest have been a disaster
