just bought two baby jaguar cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
cool yeah those are about the same size as mine right now (about 1.5in) just keep the water clean and temp up and they should be fine, also watch out for aggression i had to divide my two because one was relentlessly attacking my other one and they can die very easily from stress at this size, also its impossible to tell sex at this size, color differences now lean more towards which is dominant or not rather than actual sex of fish. GOOD LUCK

i'll keep an eye on them. they seem ok with each other they are in with a couple of small algae eaters and they seem more worried about them. i know its early days but every time i go in the kitchen im examining the tank. addictive.

do you know how quick the grow.

not sure as this is my first time keeping jags, but from what ive read they grow like little oscars until they hit 8-9in and then slow down a little, i will say though that i have already noticed a little growth on my guys and its only been like 2 weeks (probably nothing measurable, but definitely look a bit bigger and taller bodied, they were also in horrible shape when i rescued them and they are almost 100% already :))

They grow quickly. I've had a few in the past and they grew at a steady rate. Just stay away from feeders. Once Jags get hooked on feeders, they are almost impossible to convert without nearly starving them. Keep them on a good diet of high quality food and they will be fine. Getting them hooked on meat will lead to a lot of trouble for you and them. Occasional treats are okay though.

i have never used feeder intentionally, a few fish have became toast due to bad choices. so far ive fed them bloodworm flake and they ate some diced prawn today. i only want the best for them. they are quite social with each other. dont chase each other. im really happy with the behaviour so far. not an ideal tank. which raises a lot of questions to the future but i'll work something out

Cute little guys, manage the bioload and fed them properly and you will have a couple of monsters in no time, good luck

five days in and they are still alive. aggression has started to show. one is more dominant but the aggression is very low octane. ive made some quite good holes for things to dart into or hide through. in the five day sice i bought them i think i see growth. its hard to keep tracks as i look at the tank every 7 seconds
