Just cant clear it....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
First impression I got was bacterial bloom.
Sort of “milky” tinge to the water.
Tank looks clean enough, so I would rule out overfeeding, right?
14 wks. from set up, your tank should be cycled and sand should have settled.
Could still be “new tank syndrome”.
If it were me, I would go the water change route.
Least expensive, other than a bit of time, and could very well clear the tank.
If that failed, then I would look to another way.
I certainly wouldn`t rush out for new filters without trying the WC first.

hi notice you say your doing 75% wc a week, when you feel tank after wc and on the return from your sump are they causing your sand to be thrown about in the water, takes ages for the sand to settle and if your return is moving the sand around it would give you a cloudy look to the water

Hi guys, a few good points there, thanks.

A few say do a WC first, i do every 3 days already, atleast 25% the 3 days, more in the last week or so to 75% a week, as i thought it could be that but nope.

And yes when i refill the tank i disturb the sand a lot. Good point. With this i am thinking of replacing the sand with black fine gravel, so that would solve that problem if it is that.

I have 2 spare canister filters, could fill them with ???

I always remove uneaten food, when i get the chance from my RTCxTSN eating it all LOL.

What is Diatom ??

So to all that i think i will change the sand to black fine gravel, reason being at first was so that the fish would show up better, well the rays would., and now also it would solve the misty water syndrome.

from there use the aqua 1000 i have with what ever media you guys suggest:)

Thanks for the help:)

I had kind of the same issue.
A tank that was doing fine and then developed the “HAZE”.
Did WC often, went with ever finer mechanical media and nothing helped.
Water quality was consistent.
Fish were healthy with no signs of stress.
What got my water crystal in 48hrs. was a UV.
Lucked on a really good buy.
9 watt light with a 100gph pump and tubing.
Kept it running as a hang on at the sump for a month.
Took it off and the water has stayed crystal without the UV.
Not saying it`s the cure for your issue, but it might cure it.

If you do that many water changes, filtration doesn't have much to filter, so I highly doubt it's your filtering. It may very well be your lighting.. I have a 40 gallon that I feel the same way about, it's running on 2 hob filters and an under gravel filter.. The water is crystal clear, but it doesn't really look it because of my crappy lighting. I need to buy a new top and hood for my tank, so the whole tank can be lighted properly
