It makes you wonder when a species name changes like that. Like what happened to this guy elliot that he loses the name? Assumedly he discovered the fish but now they change the name? Cichlid genus and species change so often its hard to keep up with.

 Yeah no doubt. If I was Mr. Elliot Id either be way pi$$ed or turning in my grave and fixin to haunt the *** of whoever authorized that change. Also all of the cichlasoma changes and such..... I mean a year ago wasnt it Nandopsis Beani??

Way to Go Rob! Can't wait to check out your MexiTank. btw how big are those Macs you're getting?
Thanks Ed !!! I will no doubt be sharing this experience with you all for sure in pictures. The Macs are probably gonna be the biggest of the new fish at about 3-4''. I did tell Jeff about what Im up to and he said that he would do his best to assure that all the fish that I recieve are of compatable sizes. I like that title for it... The Mexitank!!

Well, Mr. Elliot should go after Mr. Meek for naming a fish after him that was described by someone else 40 years prior. :grinno:

As for the beani, the genus named keeps jumping to the previous one as each genus is restricted. So finally, it had no more previous names and is settled into exCichlasoma until some scientist figures out and creates a new genus for it. It never really should have been in Nandopsis, it just happened to land there between when Cichlasoma and Nadopsis were being restricted. Kind of like how festae fell into Amphilophus when it never should have been.

Science is fun!!!! :nilly:
