Just for Fleshy lol

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With big tanks it is a very good idea to use very little "live rock". Buying it at 7 bucks a lb is obviously expensive. You can buy some amazing dry rock from Bulk Reef Supply. You can even request certain sized pieces. In addition to getting big pieces from them you can fill in with any old base rock. There are frequent people on Craigslist and reef sites selling off rock as well for significantly cheaper. Obviously the dry rock needs to cure and become live rock, but that is part of the patience involved with setting up a quality large tank. I personally got all of my live rock(400+ lbs. total) from a few different people on Craigslist and only paid on average approximately $1.50 a lb.

^ that is actually what I have been doing. Buying used tanks off of craigslist for less than what the live rock alone in them would be at a lfs , and then as my tank fill up I just move on to the next largest tank that I have lol. I already have too many tanks and this process is not helping my case at all but the deals are so good. I probably have about 15 empty tanks in the garage ranging in size from 10 to 150 gallons. I sell as many as I can but have not been very persistent because time is short so the emptys keep accumulating

I had a house full of Freshwater predator tanks myself - 2 years ago 15 total running after gettin' into salt last winter, I'm down to 6 tanks running and never a shortage of sumps upgrades. Thought about multiple SW tanks - still might but with large salty's comes a large price tag.

300lbs of live rock for the 240 would be 2100.00 where im from lol

Very simple and easy fix to that. Use base rock it will very quickly become live rock in an established tank.
